Beaune 1er Cru, Les Vignes Franches, 2006
Considered by some among the superior 1er Cru holdings in the Beaune Appellation, close to the border of Pommard, the gentle slope of Les Vignes Franches is exposed in a south/south-east direction. This well exposed parcel produces a wine of ample texture, richness and seductive charm, difficult to resist in its youth.
A seductive web of cherry and fresh black raspberry aromas accompanies a crushed stone mineral backbone and provides for a structured counterpoint to the up front candied fruit profile. Silky, luscious mouthfeel with soft tannins that quickly soften with a little aeration. A consistent charmer from vintage to vintage, this well constructed wine satisfies on many levels with its easy, accessible pleasures. Will do well with a little cellaring, but is just as well enjoyable upon release.
