Volnay 1er Cru, Les Mitans, 2006

Composed of fruit taken from Les Mitans and L’Ormeau, lying next to one another just east of the village. The parcels here, dominated by more clay closer to the surface, show more structure and definition, darker, blacker fruit with suggestions of cocoa and smoke.

Here the profile becomes more focused, more precise and more compelling, offering dark raspberry and a ripe, red fruited palate with sweet cherry distillate in a heady mélange against suggestions of cherry pit and crushed stone and dark chocolate. Supple texture and seamlessly interwoven tannins.
