Mercurey, La Chassière, 1er Cru
Issued from the south eastern facing slope which gives its name to this 1er Cru parcel, in the family name since 1780. The vineyard is composed of two separate sections, the older planted in the 1950s and the younger planted in 1982.
The soil here is one of clay marl mixed with pebbled limestone closer to the surface giving the resulting wine a firmer structure than the Vieilles Vignes cuvée, slower to fully reveal itself, a more reserved aromatic personality but at the same time a deeper and more complex character with greater tension, suggestions of game, wild mushrooms, forest floor as well as red to black fruits and a soft velvety texture.
